Tuesday May 17, 2011Get (Bathing Suit) Ready
Memorial Day is on it's way, and we're here to help you get slimmer for summer. If it takes getting scared skinny, we'll remind you that there's no hiding in a swimsuit!
We know this sudden change in seasons (and wardrobe) can be overwhelming, so we're here to streamline the transition.
Follow these five simple tips between now and Memorial Day to welcome swimsuit season with open arms (and flat stomachs.)
go back to top 1. Go Gluten-Free
Many lose weight on gluten-free regimens because many foods that contain gluten (breads, muffins, cookies, cakes) just aren’t healthy.
Put another way: Bagels are not for thin people. The reason every fad diet is lower-carb is simple: It works - before, after, and during swimsuit season.
go back to top 2. Kick Cocktails to the Curb
What would a short-term goal be without some good old-fashioned sacrifice and self-deprivation?
Skip the 3 Cs: Canned foods (soups, beans), carbonated beverages (Diet Coke aka liquid nastiness included), and cocktails until you feel prepped for the pool.
go back to top 3. Blast the Bloat
In no particular order, our favorite high-potassium de-bloaters are: oranges, avocados, and cantaloupe.
While these de-bloaters are easy to find in any grocery store, we have one more "secret weapon" item to add to the list: Rodial tummy tuck sticks work to increase digestion, helping with a slimmer waistline. They are rich in green clay, fennel seeds, and prebiotic fiber to help eliminate toxins flatten bellies.
go back to top 4. Work that Water
Researchers can debate the amount of water we need to drink for optimal health, but in the meantime, we’ll tell you how much H20 you need to look your best - a lot.
We suggest 96 ounces daily of a combination of water with a cup or two of Teas Tea green tea, Zico coconut water
, or Hint water mixed in for variety. It’s counterintuitive, but water helps you lose water. And if we’re dehydrated, sometimes we’re tempted to eat when we actually need to drink, so just drink up in the first place.
go back to top 5. Exit the Elliptical
If you want to feel less lumpy in a swimsuit, you need more than the usual walk or Precor routine. Run, take a spinning class, use the stair climber (or an actual staircase), jump rope, or do whatever form of exercise you hate or think is “too hard.”
Do it six days a week for 45-60 minutes each time. And do it in your swimsuit for extra motivational bonus points. If you want more specific workout moves, check in on the Foodtrainers blog next week - we will be featuring "NYC's Trainers Top Toners."
